Donaciano "Chano" Mendez passed away on May 2, 2024 at the age of 82. Chano, sometimes also called "Don," was a long-time resident of Selma, California. He was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and grew up in Fabens, Texas.
Chano's past-time was going to the Selma swap meet and to yard-sales. He would fix up discarded furniture and appliances and made various hand-made crafts that included crosses, picture frames, and scorpions woven out of brass wire which he would give away to family and friends. By trial-and-error throughout the years, Chano became a self-taught handyman and was always willing to share his knowledge and resources to help family and friends. Chano was very sociable and would often stop to talk to people for hours while on a trip to the store or the pharmacy, or anywhere in town. Chano was kind and giving and even though he had no wealth he was the type of man that would give his shirt off his back to anyone in need. But most important, Chano loved his family and supported and protected them to the best o his abilities up to his last breath.
Donaciano "Chano" is predeceased by his first wife Guadalupe H. Mendez, his sister Maria Elena and brother Marcelino Mendez. He is survived by his wife Angelica M.
Moreno; his children Sylvia Bueno, Cecilio and Luis Dominguez, Estela Flores, Esperanza Velazco; his sisters Dominga, Guadalupe and Rosa Mendez; brothers Cruz, Angel, Julian and Ausencio Mendez Jr.; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
