Augustine Aragon

On Friday morning Jan 25, 2013 our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Augustine Aragon, passed away, leaving an ache in our hearts that will always be there, but his pain and suffering had stopped. He was laid to rest on February 1, 2013, with Military Honors at Floral Memorial Park.

Augustine Aragon was born on October 20, 1919 in Ysleta, Texas, the fourth son of Mercedes and Leon Aragon. He attended elementary and high school in Ysleta.

On December 1, 1942, at the age of 21, he enlisted in the Army. He was in Co. C 756th Railway Shop Battalion. He was a Rifle Marksman and served at Battle of the Bulge, landed at Normandy, serving in both Germany and France. He was honorably discharged on January 1, 1946 as a Private First Class. He received an EAME Campaign Metal, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and a Victory Ribbon.

In 1947 he visited his older sister in Selma and met a young girl, Teresa Martinez, who would become his wife of 65 years on August 10, 1947. Together they would raise four sons and two daughters. In later years they welcomed six grandchildren, and from that came five great grandsons, and one great granddaughter, Kiera Marie, who always brought a smile to his face. His family was the most important thing in his life. His love for them was never ending.

He retired from West Coast Peaches & Growers in 1979 after 25 years. While working there he was a Foreman in the dehydrator where he continued to work summers until he had to stop because of his health. Later he spent countless hours in his garden until he no longer could.

We will miss his smile, his jokes, which could make you cry from laughing, but most of all we will miss seeing him in the rocker with his beanie on his head. We'd hear stories of what a great baseball player he was, when he played for a team from Selma. "Wait for the stories," his only brother Carlos would tell us

The memories he leaves us and the love he gave us will be never-ending. The love that we all knew he had for us is never-ending.
